Dr. Bertrand Martin Tipple (1868-1952) was quite a famous man in Methodist circles. His biography is at Wikipedia, along with his photo, shown below.
There are some interesting highlights to his life story. While he was at Syracuse University, he joined the Delta Upsilon fraternity and lived at the fraternity house at the same time that author Stephen Crane lived there.

During the years he was President of the Methodist International College in Rome, Italy (1911-1923), he got into more than one kerfluffle with the Pope; on one occasion, ex-President Teddy Roosevelt also got involved.

Wonderful, bright & warm. Arose 7 A.M. To Breakfast. Studied. Classes 9:30-11:30 A.M. Worked at Wyman's 11:45-1:45 for Widenhouse. Classes 2;15-4:45. Played volley ball, shower bath. Out to supper, P.O. etc. Back. Studied. To bed 12 P.M. Thankful for good parents.

Wyman's is another restaurant where Stanford appears to be working. He seems to be substituting, though, for other students. Below is a "trade card" for that restaurant.
